Tour: Airborne Innovation Lab and LTG Gavin Joint Innovation Outpost

This off-site visit will provide Federal Technology Symposium attendees with an immersive experience at Fort Bragg’s 82nd Airborne Innovation Lab (AIL), where cutting-edge rapid prototyping and dual-use technologies are accelerating warfighter innovation. Attendees will engage with engineers, military personnel, and innovation leaders to understand how the lab is developing, testing, and deploying new capabilities to meet warfighter needs in real-time.

Attendees will also gain insight into the LTG Gavin Joint Innovation Outpost (JIOP) and its future role in Army modernization, highlighting the JIOP as a hub for technology scouting, capability development, and operational experimentation.

A key focus of the visit will be how North Carolina’s innovation ecosystem can support and collaborate with AIL and JIOP, demonstrating how state organizations and resources contribute to defense innovation by bridging military challenges with commercial and academic solutions.

Itinerary.

  • 11:00 AM: Meeting space in the Lobby of the Tony Rand Student Center
    • Campus Map: Parking is available in parking lots: 4, 6, & 10.  View campus map. 
    • Where: Fayetteville Technical Community College
      Tony Rand Student Center, Multi-Purpose Room (building #7)
      2201 Hull Road, Fayetteville, NC
  • 11:30 AM: Depart the Fayetteville Technical Community College, Tony Rand Student Center.
  • 12:00 PM: Arrival at Airborne Innovation Lab (AIL), Fort Bragg
  • 2:30 PM: Depart 82nd Airborne Innovation Lab
  • 3:00 PM:  Stop at LTG Gavin Joint Innovation Outpost (JIOP)
  • 3:30 PM: Return to Fayetteville Technical Community College, Tony Rand Student Center

Requirements.

  • In order to participate you must select the tour option during the registration process. Bus transportation will be provided to participants and is limited to the first 40 RSVPs on the event registration.
  • Confirmed participants must have their driver's license with them on the tour.
  • Lunch will not be provided, please eat prior to the departure for the tour.

For those on the list without a valid DoD ID must obtain a visitor pass to access Fort Bragg. Passes are issued at the All American Visitor Control Center (VCC), located outside the All American Access Control Point.

To get a pass, visitors must:

  1. Present a valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID
  2. Provide vehicle registration and proof of insurance (if driving on post)
  3. Undergo a background check (completed at the VCC)
  4. If approved, you will be issued a temporary pass valid for the duration of your visit

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, as processing times can vary.
