North Carolina: Frontline of the Future
This session highlights the infrastructure, strategic and operational programs and resources available to businesses and military to grow the innovation ecosystem in North Carolina – the Frontline of the Future. Chairman Michael Cunningham, COL(R) Denny Lewis and Dr. John Hardin will showcase activities and resources of the Board of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Defense Technology Transition Office and the One North Carolina Small Business Program, including incentive and matching funds available to businesses pursuing and winning DoD SBIR/STTR awards for defense innovation.
Panel: Defense Research and Development Resources
Moderated by Dr. Steven Lee, Chief Scientist at the Army Research Office, this panel will focus on existing and emerging academia- and industry-based R&D capacity in North Carolina across numerous industrial sectors. Highlighted programs include human performance (NC Research Campus, RTI), textiles and soldier systems (NC State), autonomy and hypersonics (NCA&T), advanced wireless (NC State), quantum (Duke), digital engineering (CORVID) biomedical (FTCC, NC BioTech) and others. These resources are available today to support science and technology needs of DoD and military commands worldwide.
Panel: Military Technology Needs and Trends
Representatives of military commands will discuss their current and anticipated needs for a broad spectrum of specific military technologies, and methodologies for identifying, nurturing, transitioning and acquiring targeted technologies. Panel: Industry Technology Solutions
A panel of industry-based innovators will present mini-briefs with technology solutions to identified military technology needs and trends. Technologies briefed may include: nanotechnology, information technology, biotechnology, robotics, artificial intelligence, wearable technologies, modern apps for predictive analytics, cybersecurity and more.
